The Bahamas Story

Where every story starts with a smile.

The 14 Islands of The Bahamas are the jewels of the Caribbean. They flow down from Grand Bahama Island at the North Western point down to Inagua at the South Eastern tip. The islands are known as ‘cays’ (from the Spanish Cayo meaning a small, low-elevation, sandy island formed on the surface of coral reefs).

Despite their proximity and geographical similarities, the variety within this group of islands is what’s remarkable about them. At one end, you have the super slick Grand Bahama Island with its championship golf courses, and at the other, you have the wonderfully secluded Mayaguana on which the weekly mail boat is still the main means of communication with the outside world.

Whatever it is that makes these islands so inviting and desirable, people just can’t resist coming back. James Bond himself has returned here for no less than 6 films. In The Bahamas, it’s said that every story starts with a smile, and everyone you meet has a story to tell, like local fisherman ‘Bonefish’ Folley who’s taken the likes of President Nixon and Prince Rainier out on his boat.
