Semi-Final Film Overview
This is a film about a man called ‘D’ who plays an 1890 Bechstein grand piano in the centre of St Thomas’ Hospital, London.
One of these characters is ‘D’. A few years ago D was visiting a friend in St. Thomas’ hospital who was dying of alcoholism. The only thing that kept his friend alive was coming down to hear D play the piano. When his friend finally died D himself became an alcoholic, and was evicted from his house.
Despite all of this D still manages to get to the piano to play, and this is why I believe D is a hero. Despite all of his many problems he suffers from in his life, despite the piano being part of the sadness for his lost friend and his own descent into alcoholism, he still makes it to the piano to play for the patients and visitors of St. Thomas’ hospital, using music to heal patients as well as mend his own broken life. To try to help others through his music as he helped his lost friend.
