Semi-Final Film Overview
The life story of the first British NBA star John Amaechi acted out by three actors at different stages of his life in an action and poetic format, with each actor playing against us – the audience. The focused teenager with strong future goals, the NBA star dedicated to his team, who was also the first ever gay NBA basketball player to come out and now the philanthropist who is not in it for the fame game.
Amaechi, who was raised in Manchester by a single parent and shot to stardom in the US, returned to the UK after retiring and now supports various youth, gay and diversity charities as well as being a psychologist, a BBC commentator and a motivational speaker.
