Semi-Final Film Overview
The Invisible Man is the story of JC, a so-called “Illegal” who was arrested during a raid at his cleaning job by the Immigration police. He spent weeks in deportation centres waiting for his deportation flight but due to life twists, his flight was cancelled. Not knowing what to do with him, police set him free but he was asked to report daily at the Immigration reporting centre until a new flight was arranged. Eventually, he decided not to turn up and went missing. His experiences are the experiences of almost half a million people who live in the UK illegally. As a detainee, while spending time in removal centres and meeting other immigrants, he started to question why history will refer to them as Illegal while the people who colonised their countries, are called adventures. In América, where JC comes from, the heroes are the Founding fathers, the Pilgrims. History has forgotten that Tantaka Iyotaka (Sitting Bull) or other famous Native Americans were welcoming to the then immigrants who ended up taking over their land or killing them, as in the case of Tantaka.
